Bresnahan weighs-in on Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOLF) — The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023 passed in the House on Tuesday with a vote of 218-206. The bill seeks to prohibit transgender athletes from participating in women’s and girls’ sports at schools that receive federal funding.
If enacted, the legislation would define a person’s sex based solely on reproductive biology and genetics at birth.
Congressman Rob Bresnahan Jr. (PA-08), who voted in favor of the bill, said, "Biological men should not be participating in female sports; it’s as simple as that. I can’t believe this is a reality and something we had to address on a federal level but it’s certainly a vote I was happy to cast."
The bill now moves to the Senate for further debate and a vote before potentially reaching the President’s desk.
