From NEPA to service academies: Local students begin military careers
Several accomplished students from Northeast Pennsylvania recently departed for one of the nation’s service academies — and they received a salute and send-off by the region’s congressman.
The cadets recently met with the congressman who nominated them, U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan, R-8, of Dallas Twp.
He said it was a welcome meeting to see America’s future heroes.
“I am incredibly proud of the students from Northeastern Pennsylvania who are attending our nation’s service academies,” Bresnahan said. “As they’ve now set out to begin this next chapter, they carry with them the strength of character and determination that define our region. I wish them the very best as they begin their journey of service to our country.”
Congressman Bresnahan’s nominees include:
Jack Doughton, Throop, United States Military Academy at West Point
“I’m honored and excited to have received my appointment to West Point. The rigorous process pushed me to grow in many ways and made me appreciate everyone who helped me get here. I’m thankful for Congressman Bresnahan and his team, my family, and my mentors for their support and aid through the selection process,” Doughton said.
Peter Durkin, Dunmore, United States Military Academy at West Point
“Going to West Point has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I’m honored to be representing Northeastern Pennsylvania there,” Durkin said.
Taylor Gashi, Harding, United States Military Academy at West Point
“I am very excited to begin my 47-month journey at West Point and grow as an individual. I am so grateful for the support I received throughout this process, as this has been a dream of mine,” Gashi said.
Natalie Talluto, Dickson City, United States Military Academy at West Point
“I am extremely honored to be part of the future of our nation and to have the opportunity to contribute to something greater than myself. When I received my appointment to the United States Military Academy, I was filled with excitement because it brought my aspirations of leading and serving others one step closer to reality.”
Aidan Benetos, Ashley, United States Naval Academy
“I am honored to represent Pennsylvania and its 8th Congressional District at the U.S. Naval Academy. Congressman Bresnahan and his staff have been of invaluable support throughout the entire process and I look forward to serving our great country with courage, honor, and dignity,” Benetos said.
