“Don’t try to drive through high water, treat it like you’re driving through a river, take a different route, it’s not worth sinking your car or trying to jeopardize your life,” said Rep. Bresnahan Jr.
Now that the scene is much drier, the town is figuring out what’s next.
“We have to look and see what we have here, what needs to be fixed, what went wrong, how it went wrong. We have to look forward and make sure the residents of Honesdale are secured and they’re not worried about having their homes and businesses flooded out from beneath them,” said Rep. Bresnahan Jr.
The worst of the damage was at St. John the Evangelist Church, where State Senator Rosemary Brown and Congressman Rob Bresnahan, Junior assessed the area ahead of federal funding requests.
“We’re standing in the middle of a shut down road with a completely eroded backside of the church but there are going to be some immediate repairs done by tonight and tomorrow to make this area safe again, and to try to prevent what happened towards the pedestrian bridge, reposition water and try to do the best we can under the short umbrella of time we have,” said Rep. Bresnahan Jr.

“We have some hearings scheduled over the next few weeks to get a better understanding of the direction of FEMA and where it is headed, but ultimately we need to be in a position to provide for our local communities, and that is a partnership between our local elected officials and our state elected officials,” said Rep. Bresnahan Jr.
Motorists and pedestirans are asked to follow temporary street signs and avoid areas with caution tape.
