Bresnahan Honored by Federal Union Workers as Outstanding New Member of Congress

February 9, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC: Yesterday, U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. (PA-08) was awarded “Outstanding New Member of Congress” by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). Rep. Bresnahan accepted the award and gave remarks at the opening session of AFGE’s 2026 Legislative Conference.

“I came to Congress to represent all of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and that responsibility includes fighting for the federal workers that show up every day to care for our veterans, support our seniors, and protect the public,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “Whether it is protecting collective bargaining rights, ensuring fair pay, or promoting safe working conditions, I will continue to work alongside AFGE to ensure the 10,000 federal workers who live and work in our district have a strong voice in Washington.”

“As the representative of Federal workers in NEPA, AFGE is proud to present our ‘Outstanding New Member of Congress’ award to Congressman Rob Bresnahan,” said Phil Glover, AFGE National Vice President, District 3. “He has stood with federal workers throughout this year fighting for collective bargaining rights, proper staffing and fair pay. We thank him for his tireless efforts in Congress.”

As a former union contractor, Rep. Bresnahan has taken a number of steps to support federal workers in NEPA. In December 2025, Rep. Bresnahan voted in favor of H.R. 2550, the Protect America’s Workforce Act, which would restore collective bargaining rights for federal employees. H.R. 2550 passed the House by a vote of 231-195, after Rep. Bresnahan helped secure floor consideration through a successful discharge petition, which he signed on September 2, 2025.

After last year’s historically long government shutdown, Rep. Bresnahan cosponsored H.R. 5801, the Shutdown Fairness Act, which would protect federal employees’ pay security during shutdowns and ensure their livelihoods cannot be used as political leverage.

Rep. Bresnahan co-led H.R.7033, the Federal Correctional Officer Paycheck Protection Act to align pay for federal correctional officers with other federal law enforcement agencies. This aims to strengthen recruitment and retention to address the chronic and severe staffing shortages in federal prisons, a challenge that hits close to home, as the Eighth District is home to USP Canaan, located in Wayne County, one of the most dangerous maximum-security prisons on the East Coast.

Rep. Bresnahan remains committed to supporting the men and women who serve our community by fighting for fair pay and safe working conditions.
