WILKES-BARRE — U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan Jr., on Tuesday said Northeastern Pennsylvania and the country are facing a skilled-workforce shortage, and businesses are in desperate need of those ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

“Work is not a dirty word,” said Bresnahan, R-Dallas Township. “This is exactly why we should not punish taking advantage of learn-as-you-earn programs and forcing workers to choose between participation in proven SNAP E&T programs and being able to receive their nutrition benefits.”

Rep. Bresnahan, R-Dallas Township, said the letter was sent to Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer and Committee on Energy and Commerce Chairman Brett Guthrie.

U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-PA) recently opposed action by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to cancel the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program as well as all applications from fiscal years 2020-2023.

“This decision is detrimental to my constituents, and I strongly urge you to reverse this decision,” wrote Rep. Bresnahan in an April 9 letter sent to Cameron Hamilton, senior official performing the duties of FEMA administrator.

WILKES-BARRE — After months of negotiating — and a five-day strike in February that caught national attention — over 800 unionized Geisinger Wyoming Valley nurses have reached a contract agreement with Geisinger executives. According to a release from SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, the contract covers nurses at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre and Geisinger Healthplex CenterPoint in Pittston.
