If any longtime reader of the Times-Tribune or its sister papers (Citizens’ Voice, Standard-Speaker, and Republican Herald) reads their most recent editorial on the government shutdown, you might be left feeling a little confused (“Now, not later, is best time to address ACA tax credit,” Oct. 26). The newspaper takes the side of Senate Democrats, who are withholding the votes necessary to reach the 60 votes required to end the government shutdown, because they think reopening the government should include addressing the Affordable Care Act’s expiring tax credits now, not later.

Rob Bresnahan, Jr., R-Dallas Township, this week introduced H.R. 5836 — the Keep WIC Working Act — legislation to ensure the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) remains fully funded and operational during any lapse in federal appropriations.
The bill would guarantee that mothers and young children who depend on WIC do not lose access to vital nutrition due to “political dysfunction” in Washington.
