WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department is getting a major boost to its current fleet of vehicles with nearly $400,000 in federal funding to help improve operations across the Diamond City.
The City of Wilkes-Barre has been awarded close to $400,000 in federal funding for the purchase of five new police vehicles.
U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan, R-8, Dallas Twp., joined local elected officials and community leaders Monday outside police headquarters to a ceremonial check presentation to celebrate the award.
“Today is about making sure the men and women who work every day to keep our neighborhoods safe have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively, safely,” Bresnahan said in a news release.
The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department is set to receive more than $372,000 in federal grant funding. The money will pay for five new police vehicles, including the technology and equipment installed inside them. Officials announced the funding Monday morning and discussed how the new vehicles will be used.
“It’s the vehicles and the upfit of those respective vehicles. So, the light package, the striping, the stuff that goes on in the interior, the tech,” said Wilkes-Barre City Police Chief Michael Boyle.
